The first Malaysian fish genome has been successfully sequenced

The Asian Arowana, also known as the “dragon fish”, has been successfully sequenced by the researchers from Monash University Malaysia using Illumina’s HiSeq2000. The Asian Arowana is listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. Symbolizing luck and prosperity within the Chinese community, the Asian Arowana is also of interest to evolutionary biologists. Read more about the story here.
